Website Design & Development
Websites built to perform
We design and build websites that look good, work well and make it easier for the right people to become customers.
From strategy and design through to development, SEO foundations and ongoing support.
Your website should do more than look good
Plenty of good-looking websites don't generate much. A site earns its keep when it explains the business clearly, gives people a reason to trust it, and makes the next step obvious.
That's a design problem, a content problem and a technical problem at the same time, which is why we don't treat them separately.
Explain the business
Build trust
Guide visitors
Work on mobile
Load quickly
Be easy to find
Encourage enquiries
Support campaigns
Designed around what you want customers to do
Layout follows the journey, not the other way round.
Arrive → Understand → Trust → Explore → Enquire / buy
Before anything gets designed, these are the questions we need to answer:
What does the visitor need to understand immediately?
What builds trust here?
What do they need to know before they'll act?
What might stop them enquiring?
Where should they go next?
What is the one primary conversion?
The process
From idea to finished website
Six stages. You'll know which one we're in and what we need from you.
01
Understand
Business goals, audience, competitors and what the existing site is and isn't doing.
04
Build
Development in WordPress, or whichever platform suits the job.
02
Structure
Pages, navigation, the customer journey and what belongs above the fold.
05
Optimise
Mobile, speed, SEO foundations, tracking and the conversion details.
03
Design
Visual direction, layouts and page templates you can actually picture using.
06
Launch & improve
Testing, launch, then the ongoing work that makes the difference.
Both halves
Good design. Sensible development.
A site can be beautiful and impossible to update. It can also be easy to update and look like a template. Neither is much use.
We build it so you can add a page, change a price or run a campaign without needing us for every small thing, while the parts that keep it consistent stay locked down.

Foundations
SEO starts with the website
Trying to fix search visibility after a badly structured website has been built makes the job much harder. It's far better to get the structure right from the start, so we treat SEO foundations as part of the build rather than an optional extra.
Site structure
Page hierarchy
Titles & headings
Internal linking
Content structure
Mobile performance
Crawlability

The words matter too
A beautifully designed website with weak messaging still underperforms.
We'll help structure and tighten the content. Usually that means cutting a fair bit of it and using the words your customers use, rather than the ones the industry prefers.
Makes the proposition clear in the first few seconds
Uses the language customers actually search with
Explains services rather than just listing them
Builds trust with specifics instead of adjectives
Supports search and AI visibility
Gives people a reason to act now, not later
Make it easy to take the next step
Different businesses convert differently. The right route depends on how your customers prefer to get in touch.
Clear calls to action
One obvious next step per page, not five.
Quote requests
Asking only what you need to quote.
Landing pages
Purpose-built for a campaign or offer.
Enquiry forms
Short enough that people finish them.
Phone calls
Still the preferred route for many trades.
Downloads
Price lists, specifications, guides.
Booking systems
For services where a slot is the sale.
Purchases
Fewest possible steps to checkout.
Where your customers really use it.

Before you commit to a rebuild
You might not need to start again
A full rebuild isn't always the right answer, and we'd rather say so than sell you one. Often the biggest gains come from fixing three or four pages, tightening the journey and sorting the mobile layout.
If a rebuild really is the answer, we'll explain why, with reasons rather than a pretty mock-up.

After launch
Websites should keep improving
Launch day is the least informative day a website will ever have. Once real people start using it, you learn what needs changing. Most of our clients keep going with us from there.

“Stu Lane and associates applied a blend of technical knowledge and graphic design skills to put together a pair of WordPress-driven sites for us… we requested the integration of external repositories like Dropbox and Google Drive so that results spreadsheets and media could be brought into the website automatically, without having to use any coding or applications to publish updates.”
